Due to its reliable performance and ability to air dry within minutes, solvent based coatings are often designated as a topcoat. Unfortunately, due to the need to reduce VOC emissions during application, most traditional liquid coating formulations no longer exist.
This has led to the development of more environmentally friendly coatings, such as new water-based formulations and high solid coatings that emit low VOCs. From the early versions used 15 years ago, the water carrying capacity has gradually been accepted. High solids refer to liquid coatings with a solid content of at least 65%, indicating the presence of minimal solvents. But less solvent also means that the coating is more viscous. This has led to the development of multi part application systems (if two parts are mixed, if three parts are mixed, it is called a 2K system, then a 3K system is mixed, etc.), which are configured to mix only seconds before application.
